Rajni Hatti-Kaul

Rajni Hatti Kaul is Professor in Biotechnology at Lund University and was previously the Head of the Division of Biotechnology at Lund University. She has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Bombay, India.

Currently, Rajni leads a research group that focuses on biotechnology tool development, use, and processes for a sustainable society. Her most recent research is centred around developing environmentally friendly chemical and renewable material production processes that could replace fossil-based products. She is also evaluating biological antimicrobial molecules for the treatment of bacterial infections to reduce antibiotic resistance.

Since 2016 Rajni has been the Programme Director for the Mistra funded research programme STEPS (Sustainable Plastics and Transition Pathways). She is also a member of the scientific advisory board for Toulouse While Biotechnology in France.

Rajni is a recipient of the Swedish Chemical Engineers Association award for 2010 for contribution to green chemistry and a co-founder of 3 spin-off companies for which she serves as a board member.
